Three Kitchen Design Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Ignoring the Work Triangle- One key principle of kitchen design is known as the work triangle, which refers to the ideal placement of the stove, sink, and refrigerator. These three things should be kept in a triangle formation, as those are the points that you will be returning to the most often as you prepare food. Many people mess up their kitchens by placing these points too far apart, or placing other appliances inside this triangle, both of which interrupt the natural workflow.
  2. Insufficient Storage- Another common mistake that many people make when it comes to kitchen design is failing to include enough storage space. Remember that you need room to store all your dishes, serving ware, cooking utensils, small appliances, and of course all your food and ingredients. The best way to make sure you have included enough storage is to work with a professional designer who can calculate your storage needs.
  3. Poor Ventilation- A third mistake that people tend to make when it comes to kitchen design is not accounting for ventilation. If you plan to install a gas cooktop, you will need a hood to ensure that the gas fumes are properly ventilated. Even if you plan to use an electric stovetop, you should still make sure your kitchen has a good ventilation system to get rid of any smoke or cooking smells.
